Gilberto M.
Age 9  ·  Grade 4  ·  Richmond, BC  ·  LPA Explorer Track

Gilberto started building robots before most kids his age had learned to type. Since Grade 1, he has worked across Scratch coding, robotics competitions, and AI tools — producing original songs, generated artwork, written stories, and interactive programs along the way. He has competed in robotics and placed. He currently spends his free time designing 3D ships and rockets, not from kits, but from his own imagination. His work through Little Prodigies Academy spans computational thinking, AI literacy, and engineering design, built consistently since age six, when most STEAM programs had not even considered enrolling him.

Four real projects across five disciplines — built, competed, printed, and presented.

🎮 Scratch · Coding

Game with Live Scoreboard

A fully playable game built in Scratch, complete with a live chart tracking the player's score over time. Gilberto designed the game logic, sprite interactions, and data visualization layer — integrating two disciplines most kids treat as separate.

🎨 AI · Creative

AI Studio: Images, Stories & Songs

Using AI tools, Gilberto generated original artwork, wrote and illustrated short stories, and composed music — all from his own prompts and creative direction. The work demonstrates early fluency in multimodal AI, not just usage but authorship.

🐟 FLL · Robotics

Fish Detector System — FLL 2025

Built for the FIRST LEGO League 2025 competition, whose theme centered on ocean ecosystems. Gilberto and his team designed and coded a fish detection system using sensors and custom logic. Their solution earned a special distinction — the team was invited to present their project at the Vancouver Aquarium.

Military Ship — Tinkercad to Print

Gilberto designed a functional military-style clip entirely in Tinkercad, then saw it through to a physical 3D print. The project required spatial reasoning, precise measurements, and iterative design thinking — skills typically introduced years later in secondary school.
